When I first started running a few weeks back I had not really considered the fact that there might be
any real dangers or things to be cautious about while on my late night excursions. Well as always I proved that I am shamefully naive of the world around me. I have discovered at the very least two dangers and if you care to join me I want to introduce you to one of these on our way "back to the Robbie."
Imagine that you are running down a street at a nice even pace, Neil Young singing seductively in your ears. Its eleven o'clock on a cold winters night and there is still snow on the ground around you, you can feel the cold air on your face as the muscles in you legs begin to throb and your lungs take in the sharpness from the air around you. As you look at your surroundings trying to decide which direction you should head in next you notice something less than a block ahead of you which brings you instantly back from the dream like state Neil Young always puts you in. There not even a stones throw away is a large dog wandering the lonely streets with the strenght and excuberance only a young dog can possess. But wait you think to yourself youth equals inexperience and stupidity in a word violence, unmitigated violence. Your pulse quickens and your hands clench into fist as you begin picturing the fate that awaits you just feet ahead. As you approach the dog ready to meet your unsavory demise your eyes lock and his mouth raises in a vicious growl as if to drench your already moist pants, but just then you get a desperate idea and pray that it will work. Your eyes never leaving his you begin to sing "Heart of Gold" with all your might hoping that the beauty that is Neil Young can reach even this primitive creature. To your surprise his mouth lowers and his eyes soften as you reach the final lines in your sing song voice "And I'm getting OLD!!!" his tail shoots between his legs as he scampers away from you taking one final look as if to say "Thank you kind sir for showing me a world beyond this garbage I was just eating." And as you continue your run you think to yourself that tonight you have just made a friend and with that thought you run home to change into much drier pants.
Thank you for joining me on this trip "Back to the Robbie" and if you missed the danger it was dogs.
Ah Neil Young can sooth even the most tormented souls, like those of vicious animals. Even when sung from a voice a mother would singe from.
